Hist\u00f3ricamente, cuando la memoria RAM se agotaba, el sistema recurr\u00eda a la \u00abSwap\u00bb en disco, un proceso lento que a menudo degradaba la experiencia del usuario.<sup><\/sup> Sin embargo, con la llegada de <strong>zRAM<\/strong>, hemos entrado en una era donde podemos \u00abexpandir\u00bb nuestra RAM mediante algoritmos de compresi\u00f3n en tiempo real. En este art\u00edculo, exploraremos c\u00f3mo configurar un sistema con 16 GB de RAM para que utilice una partici\u00f3n zRAM equivalente, manteniendo al mismo tiempo una swap f\u00edsica para no sacrificar la capacidad de hibernaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_%C2%BFQue_es_zRAM\"><\/span>2. \u00bfQu\u00e9 es zRAM?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"p-rc_f226512ab8904af9-26\"><strong>zRAM<\/strong> es un m\u00f3dulo del kernel de Linux que crea un dispositivo de bloque en la memoria RAM donde los datos se comprimen.<sup><\/sup> En lugar de enviar las p\u00e1ginas de memoria inactivas al disco (lento), las comprime y las mantiene en la memoria vol\u00e1til (ultra r\u00e1pido).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Es, en esencia, un \u00abmecanismo de intercambio sobre RAM comprimida\u00bb. Al usar algoritmos modernos como <strong>zstd<\/strong>, podemos alcanzar tasas de compresi\u00f3n de 3:1, transformando virtualmente 16 GB de swap en una capacidad de almacenamiento de datos mucho mayor sin tocar el hardware de almacenamiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_%C2%BFQue_es_la_Swap\"><\/span>3. \u00bfQu\u00e9 es la Swap?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"p-rc_f226512ab8904af9-27\">La <strong>Swap<\/strong> tradicional es un espacio dedicado en el disco duro (partici\u00f3n o archivo) que act\u00faa como una extensi\u00f3n de la memoria f\u00edsica.<sup><\/sup> Su funci\u00f3n principal es doble:<sup><\/sup>+1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Red de seguridad:<\/strong> Evitar que el sistema cierre aplicaciones por falta de memoria (Out of Memory).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hibernaci\u00f3n:<\/strong> Permitir el volcado completo del estado de la RAM f\u00edsica al disco para que el equipo pueda apagarse por completo y retomar el trabajo exactamente donde se dej\u00f3.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Caracteristicas_zRAM_vs_Swap_Fisica\"><\/span>4. Instalaci\u00f3n de zRAM en Debian 13<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Debian 13 facilita este proceso mediante el paquete <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">zram-tools<\/code>, que gestiona la creaci\u00f3n y destrucci\u00f3n de los dispositivos de bloque de forma automatizada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para comenzar, abre tu terminal y ejecuta:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">$ sudo apt install zram-tools<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Configuracion_de_zRAM_de_16_GB\"><\/span>6. Este comando nos mostrar\u00e1 si el dispositivo est\u00e1 activo, qu\u00e9 algoritmo est\u00e1 usando y, sobre todo, si el tama\u00f1o coincide con tus 16 GB de RAM f\u00edsica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ejecuta el siguiente comando en tu terminal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">$ sudo zramctl\nNAME       ALGORITHM DISKSIZE DATA COMPR TOTAL STREAMS MOUNTPOINT\n\/dev\/zram0 zstd           15G   4K   59B   20K      16 [SWAP]\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQue_deberias_ver\"><\/span>\u00bfQu\u00e9 deber\u00edas ver?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La salida deber\u00eda ser muy similar a esta tabla.
